50 Random Acts of Kindness ~ Ideas to Inspire Kindness

“Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

Have you ever heard that quote? If you want the world to be more kind, you need to be more kind. If you want the world to be more mindful, you must be more mindful.

A random act of kindness is a selfless act performed by kind people to either help or cheer up a random stranger, friend, neighbor or co-worker for no reason other than to make them happier. It doesn’t matter if it’s spontaneous or planned, all that matters is that you’ve brightened someone’s day!

Nothing is to big or too small, whether you buy a coffee for the person behind you at the coffee shop or pay someone’s bill at a restaurant.

Acts of kindness are more powerful than you may think. A small kind gesture could completely change someone’s day, week, month or year!

Here are some ideas to get you started on your random acts of kindness:

  1. Pay for someone’s coffee at the coffee shop – This is probably the most common act of kindness that you hear about. It doesn’t matter if the next person has the money to pay for their coffee or not. The amazing thing about this act, is the amount of people that keep paying it forward. I was speaking to a friend of mine who works in a coffee shop. She said the most powerful part of this is how far the free coffees go. She will tell the person at the counter that their coffee has been paid for and then that person almost always buys the next person’s coffee. Amazing.
  2. Compliment someone everyday – Just saying something small can change someone’s entire day. “Your hair looks nice”,  “I love that shirt” or “You have a beautiful smile”. Whatever you feel comfortable saying to someone without being fake, or feeling uncomfortable. Read an article HERE about how receiving a compliment gives you the same feeling as when you receive money.
  3. Send a card –  Homemade or store bought, that’s up to you. You could send cards to patients at hospitals or nursing homes. You can start the letter with “Dear Friend”. If you don’t know where to send your letters, check out this website called Love for the Elderly.
